Pelargonium For Europe - Varieties. Part 2.

The Pelargonium, the balcony queen is popular for its impressive diversity of colours, leaves and flower shapes, size and growth forms. The flowers bloom in many beautiful colours starting from white, pink, fuchsia, violet, lavender, apricot, orange and yellow till red. They also come in a wide variety of bicolour variants. There are trailing and upright pelargoniums, both tall and small, scented varieties and those with eye-catching leaf variegations. There are cultivars that are a cross between trailing and zonal pelargoniums, the so-called interspecific varieties, and those with particularly large showy flowers, which are well-suited as houseplants. The cultivars which are available in Europe can be divided up into different groups, each of which encompasses numerous varieties.

Interspecific: diversified crossing...

Interspecific or hybrid geraniums are a cross of an ivy and zonal geranium, some of which have an upright growth and some of which have trailing ivy leaf foliage. These fairly new cultivars have been gaining popularity for several years now, as they possess the many positive characteristics of both peltatum and zonal geraniums: They flower profusely, they are hardy and weather resistant and extremely versatile. Interspecific hybrids can not only be planted in balcony boxes and planters, but many varieties can also be used for ground cover in flowerbeds.

Mixing and matching: fancy-leaf geraniums...

Fancy-leaf geraniums are mainly grown for their distinctly marked, colourful leaves. The colours of these bright or variegated leaves vary from green and yellow to brown or white. Many fancy-leaf geraniums also have pretty delicate flowers that are not as showy as those of other geranium varieties. Due to the variegated colours and patterns on their leaves, fancy-leaf geraniums combine especially well with the luxuriant blooms of peltatums or other summer flowers. Most fancy-leaf geraniums belong to the zonals, although they can also be peltatum or scented-leaved geraniums.

The Pelargonium campaign started in 2017 and takes place in Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland and in several Scandinavian countries. Kamila Zmijewska, PR Expert For Flowers Markets is responsible for implementing marketing campaign strategy in Poland.
